Conservation Tips

A few tips for conserving energy in your home:

To balance comfort and efficiency, set your thermostat in the 68-70° F when heating your home.
Leave room in your refrigerator or freezer for cold air to circulate. This helps your appliance to operate properly.
Toaster ovens use less energy than full-sized ovens. Use them when cooking or warming small portions of food.
Use the lowest appropriate temperature setting on your dryer and avoid partial loads and over drying clothes.
Compact fluorescent bulbs use 75% less electricity (and last longer).
When using glass cookware for baking you can reduce the cooking temperature by 25 degrees.
A dripping faucet can waste 237 gallons of water per month.
Change filters in air conditioning units and heat pumps at least once a month.
Keep the fireplace damper closed when the fireplace is not in use. Closing the damper prevents up to 8% of furnace-heated air from going up the chimney.
